Pea Gravel Project

By 10:30am I was exhausted.
I was planning to do a sewing project but couldn't even muster enough energy to cut fabric.
Pathetic, I know.
When the husband offered to do today's project I about jumped for joy,
except I was too tired.
BEFORE...

Best Halloween costume ever!
THE TOOLS
THE PROCEDURE
The husband took about 10 bags of pea gravel and spread it so nicely over the dirt between the house and the rocks.

AFTER...

D tells us A husband can help most by following through on a task he performs. For instance, when he does the dishes how wonderful it would be if he would complete the job by cleaning the pots and pans, by rinsing the sink and removing the food particles caught in the drain, and then by sweeping the floor.

The husband followed through on this task!
He's a keeper.

A New Home for the Boat--Part 2 & Project 7 Update!

Remember yesterday's BEFORE picture?

The house needed some "drainage" issues addressed...

so they dug a big hole (actually they dug 2, one at the front and one at the back), routed the drains to the hole and filled them with gravel.

AFTER...

I had my ultrasound today...
I had NO DOUBT we were having a boy...

I was SO WRONG :)

D says she knows some little girls who help best when declared "Little Homemakers" and are given an apron and a "schedule". Of course this "schedule is nothing but a list of two or three simple duties. But it really works!

A New Home for the Boat

BEFORE...

This side of the house has been wasted space.
My guys who took the tree out last week are the same guys doing this project!
And they're using the same TOOLS they used to take out the tree.

The baby was fascinated by all the big trucks.

Not sure on the exact PROCEDURE...
They cleared and graded the area.
The ground used to slope toward the house but now it slopes away...no more possibility of a flooded basement :)

They brought in a load of gravel...still lots more gravel to come!

AFTER...

The husband and I are so excited about this project!
We wanted to do this even before we got the boat but it meant having to remove that huge pine tree--which the husband was not on board with.
I think he's over it now...he won't admit it but I think even he's glad it's gone :)

Here's another "ditty" D suggests you tape on your child's door...
Great Scott! don't be a fool;
Get your bed made
Before you go to school!

Removing the Pine Tree-Part 2

This is where we left off yesterday...
BEFORE...

A couple splashes of yellow...

Craig and his son cut up the rest of the tree today and pulled out the stump.
I missed all of the action since me and my girls were out doing fun Halloween stuff!

The very large TOOL hauling off almost all of the tree...

AFTER...

We still have the ginormous stump in our driveway...doesn't it look spooky!
I didn't remember to take an after picture until 10pm.

D quotes William James as saying,
"Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging-on of an uncompleted task."

I should probably complete that pantry next week.

Removing the Pine Tree--Part 1

I love projects that other people do for me :)
BEFORE...

The husband says I'm a tree hater.
The husband is mistaken.
I am not a tree hater
but I am most definitely a sap and pine needle hater.
Didn't get a picture of THE chain saw TOOL
Did get a picture of this amazing splash of yellow...
candy corn garland--LOVE IT!

THE PROCEDURE
Unfortunately my girls and I were at the movie theater watching Ramona & Beezus so I missed most of the action.

AFTER...

The tree is down.
Maybe my neighbor will stop giving me dirty looks now that there won't be any more pine needles in her driveway or sap on her car.
I haven't forgot about the pantry.
D says It's better to plan too much and get only half of it finished than to plan nothing and get it all done.

Removing Dead Bushes!

This project was waiting for me when I woke up this morning...

The little boy wants his hat cleaned.
The big boy did a little research on the Internet and learned that this would be the best way.
I'll let you know how it goes.

BEFORE...

That one smack in the middle is the worst.
One day it was alive and over-growing,
the next day dead D-E-A-D dead.

THE TOOLS
My little guy has been working the husband's tow truck since he was 4.
He's my best worker.
The big boy could learn a thing or two from him...he spent the entire day playing Halo on his XBox.
PS--You can't see it very well, but there is a little splash of yellow on his gloves!

THE PROCEDURE
The husband wrapped the chains around the base of the bush and winched it out with his truck.
Then he took a break to pull the trailer out from the side of the house.
It didn't go so well.
One of the tires was flat.
He tried to replace it but couldn't get the tire off.
It's times like these when having your own tow truck really comes in handy.

He took an unexpected trip to Les Schwab.
Then back for more bush removal.
We waited a few hours for it to cool down then the whole family went out to finish up the job
(except for the big boy...still playing Halo).

AFTER...

This was a big project.
I should have milked it for all it was worth and stretched it into 2 days.
D tells us I'm sure you'll agree that it's important for both you and the children that they have some responsibilities about the home and yard. You realize that over the years you should do less and less for your children so you can do more and more with them.
To the big boy's credit, he does do his laundry in between Halo games...one less thing I have to do for him.

Tree Removal

Back from the family vacation.
Today was a crazy busy day!
The husband took care of the project with the help of the little boy.
It's the neighborhood clean-up today.
In his rush to fill the dumpster before the rest of the neighbors, he forgot to take the BEFORE and THE TOOLS pictures.
So just picture in your mind several mostly dead aspen trees and a saw.
Here's a little splash of yellow in this cute father's day card the 8 year old daughter made the husband.

AFTER...

The husband loves trees.
Unfortunately his aspen trees had seen better days.

D tells us A person tends to become what you think of him. Think and speak highly of your husband and he will grow to fit the part if he doesn't already. Praise him for the fine things he is, be openly appreciative and grateful to him for what he does. You will find that he will respond by repeating his good deeds and by doing other things to please you.
I think the husband did a fine job of cutting down the trees.
Thanks husband for taking care of today's project...so that I could go grocery shopping, make delicious black bean salsa, take the girls to violin lessons, take the big boy to get the staples out of his back, to work out at the HS and to his driving lesson (he'll have his license in a week or so--woohoo! I will be putting his driving skills to work right away).
