A Strange Space

If I had a quarter for every person who has asked me over the last 4 1/2 years, "What are you going to do with that empty space at the top?" I'd hire a maid and forget all of this!
I guess these are book shelves...but they are weird. They are very deep and there is a lot of empty space between the shelves.
BEFORE...

This picture was taken in the midst of the office project when I had begun to relocate some of the books to the office--so it looks even worse than normal.
Have I mentioned I hate to shop?
Finding something to fill this space would require thinking and shopping and I wanted no part of either!
(Sorry no TOOLS--I was way off my game today...my girls had 5am violin lessons so I'm just lucky to be dressed and have my hair done.)
AFTER...

I bucked up and headed over to Ross this afternoon and right away found this vase and the twigs...they filled the space quite nicely if I do say so myself!
AND the best part--I spent under 20 bucks!

D has some ideas on how to make your own bookshelves.
Book shelves can be made from inexpensive pine boards covered with burlap (using Blue Bird glue) and then wiping burlap immediately with a damp cloth. The shelves are supported by rustic sand colored bricks, which match the burlap. (Cinder blocks or glass bricks can also be attractively used in this manner.)

Now there's a project for us! Building a book shelf out of burlap and bricks!
