The Beginnings of Organizing 15 Years of Pictures

No, the garage is not finished...I can promise you it will be sometime this year.
This next project will also be ongoing...I may or may not finish this one this year.
BEFORE...
I am seriously challenged when it comes to scrapbooking.
My oldest has a scrapbook from birth to 2.
My 2nd-4th children each have a scrapbook with a few pictures in each one.
My 2 youngest have nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero.
I do have maybe 10 years of our marriage in family scrapbooks...
I JUST DON'T HAVE THE PATIENCE FOR IT.
Now digital scrapbooking--I like! I haven't done much of it though.
I do have all my pictures from July of 2008 to the present organized in folders on my computer so there is hope for me.

THE only TOOL
was my sorting skills (pretty much a professional sorter by now).
THE PROCEDURE
had to be kept as simple as possible to keep me from freaking out over my millions of pictures--not labeled and not organized in any way shape or form.
There were a lot of random things in these bins so I sorted (believe it or not everything in the above picture is sorted), put a few things in the "to be filed" stack (we'll Learn the Fun of Filing another day), sent a lot of stuff to the recycle bin, and then put only pictures back in this bin.

THE DILEMMA

These little bags are full of negatives.
WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH THEM?
I was ready to chuck them since I've never not once looked at them.
But then the husband wasn't so sure it was a good idea to get rid of them.
With being able to scan pictures I don't see the point of keeping them.
ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS?

D says in regards to baby books...as they (the children) grow older these pictures will serve to remind them of what in life is most precious and important and will help them to appreciate the past and consequently live the present to the best of their abilities so that the past may always be worth appreciating.

Maybe I could find another way for the children to appreciate the past...their entire childhood could very well be in the past by the time I finish their baby books.

  2. I have a box of negatives too. My fear is if there is a fire or something, those pictures are gone, but the negatives may survive! Silly... irrational, really. I have 3 years of pictures on the computer that aren't printed or in scrapbooks. What happens if that 'puter dies? 3 years gone... just like that. I hate putting pictures on cd's because it takes forever, so I think I'll make a kid do it. I also might just buy a jump drive for pictures, then go print crazy at Sam's Club! :~)

  3. Welcome HoneyB! You will love the book...D also has several other books that are great. I love her books "A House of Order" and I am reading "The JOY of Homemaking" right now and it's great too! They all have common threads but some different things too.
Les-I vote for the jump drive and a back up jump drive!
